The controversy surrounding the voice of Bayonetta 3 bubbled over this past weekend, with original Bayonetta voice actor Hellena Taylor claiming she was offered an inadequate amount of pay for the job, so she passed. PlatinumGames originally said, “various overlapping circumstances made it difficult for Hellena Taylor to reprise her role.” Stuck in the middle of this mess is Jennifer Hale, the voice actor who took up the mantle of Bayonetta for the third installment.

Hale has stayed mostly quiet on the matter, outside of liking a few tweets on Twitter. Many speculated Hale’s silence was tied to an NDA, and now we know that’s indeed the case. Still, Hale has released a blanket statement on some of the matter via Twitter, and you can see her comments in full below.

Hale is right. There are lots of other hardworking people that contributed to this game. Asking for a boycott because one individual got passed over is childish and diminishes all the work of others.

Just goes to show, anyone can manipulate a bunch of angry hateful demons. It takes more than that to be Bayonetta

'My reputation speaks for itself."

That comment in and of itself is saying A LOT about the whole situation.

People rush to conclusions without hearing both sides. Some people were immediately demonizing Platinum or even Hale, or just endlessly speculating. We like to frame these issues as the evil big baddy against the poor worker, but most situations are not so simple. That's why it is so important to withhold judgment. And in the end, it might be possible that neither side is completely wrong or right.
