Today’s a big day for Nintendo fans, boys and girls. Believe it or not, the NES launched on this very day all the way back in 1985. While Nintendo existed in the arcades long before the arrival of the NES, it was Nintendo’s first home console that really put their name on the map.

Many of us wouldn’t be Nintendo fans today if not for the release of the NES. The arrival of that console showed that not only was the gaming scene alive and well, it could also thrive in the confines of our homes, rather than in arcades. The NES pretty much single-handedly revived the fledgling game industry and paved the way to where we are today.

In honor of the 37th anniversary of the NES, hit up the comments and share some fond memories of Nintendo’s first home console. Whether you played it at launch or have only experienced its games through the Virtual Console, we want to hear about how the NES impacted your life!

Happy Birthday NES!!
Things didn’t really kick off for me until the SNES but I fondly remember the NES.

Happy birthday. I got one second handed from my parrents when the SNES launched as they didn't want to spend money on a new thing not knowing if I would like it. I never owned as SNES too because they kept buying games for the NEs but then when the 64 came out, I gor a brand new one and I kept the streak going.

My memory is a little spotty, but it was the NES plus Super Mario Bros. that turned me into a life-long gamer. I think I was 5 at the time when the NES entered my life. And boy the things you can do in Super Mario Bros. like small Fire Mario. Too bad I didn't know of the Minus World back then. It wouldn't be until I was old enough for a Nintendo Power sub before I learned of the Minus World in SMB.
