Banjo-Kazooie were originally going to be in Yooka-Laylee

Playtonic is a developer made up of a bunch of former RARE devs, and the first title they worked on was the 3D platformer, Yooka-Laylee. Those who followed RARE over the years definitely saw the DNA of Banjo-Kazooie in Yooka-Laylee, but it turns out the original plan was even deeper than that.

Playtonic’s Andy Robinson took to Twitter to drop a very tantalizing tidbit about Yooka-Laylee, and it’s one that raises more questions than answers. According to Robinson, Banjo-Kazooie were meant to be a part of Yooka-Laylee at one point, but then that idea apparently fell apart.

Just how involved were Banjo-Kazooie meant to be in the game? What led to the dynamic duo getting yanked? Unfortunately, we don’t have any of those details right now. Hopefully Robinson shares a few more tweets that give better insight!

That would be a nice cameo. But maybe bitter sweet considering people long for a new Banjo-Kazooie game

I wish Rare / Microsoft just let Playtonic run with Banjo IP and make a new game.

I bet Microsoft had lots of terms and conditions attached, which put Playtonic off. Might have jeopardised future releases of the game and look at the hassle it is to get old games released these days.
