If you spend a lot of time on Twitter, you might be seeing a lot less advertising from Nintendo on the platformer.

As you likely know, Elon Musk recently purchased Twitter, and now he’s running the show for the social media platform. Following that change of the guard, numerous companies and advertising firms have become wary of the platform’s future. With Musk making numerous changes, companies aren’t quite sure to expect in terms of safety when it comes to content and more.

Interpublic Group is one of the biggest ad companies out there, and they have some major clients under their belt. IG reached out to their partners to suggest a flat-out ad freeze until the situation could be better assessed. With Musk’s version of Twitter being in its very early days, more time is needed to ascertain how things will play out in the future.

As you might have guessed, Nintendo is one of IG’s clients. What we know for a fact is what we mentioned above. IG suggested to their partners that they hold off on ads. What we don’t know is whether or not Nintendo took this suggestion. All sources point to that being the case so far, but we’re not 100% sure of that.

Of course, one could argue that any/all tweets from Nintendo on Twitter constitute an advertisement in some form. That said, this discussion is specifically about purchased ad slots that appear on Twitter timelines as you scroll, and not standard tweets from Nintendo.

Thanks to Nintyfan1991 for the heads up!

If Twitter cratered entirely, I think the world would be better off. Keep leaving, I say.

Yeah I’ve seen reports of many companies pausing their advertising spend, including Nintendo.
Probably a cautionary wait-and-see approach.

Funnily enough, several car manufacturers are on the reported lists too. Guess they might not want to indirectly give money to their competitor now.

Now’s as good a time as any to mention how grateful I am that GoNintendo has stuck to its own way of doing things rather than desperately clickbaiting for social media engagement. I was concerned that the big relaunch might go in that direction and I’m very happy that the content sensibilities haven’t sold out even a little bit. Just some requisite links near the bottom, like the good old days…of, like, 10 years ago.

@tendonin

I second that.

I tried Nintendolife when GoNintendo went on hiatus but that site was atrocious.
