GameFREAK never can optimize their games. They've been like that since Gen 1. The problem is they're stuck in the need to Madden their mainline series for pushing merchandise, so they never get the time to optimize their games. The only way I can see getting an optimized Pokemon game is if Monolith Soft takes Pokemon dev duties away from GameFREAK.

That's the only hope for the series's continued survival since Monolith probably can optimize within The Pokemon Company's strict timing for merchandising. GameFREAK is not in a spot where they'd be allowed to delay releases ever so their games will continue to suffer until something gives (GameFREAK going bankrupt, etc.)

One very consistent complaint, and a rather big one is performance. Which is a shame, it seems like a lot of people would have liked this game a great deal more if it ran a little better.

On the bright side, hopefully this lights a fire under GameFreaks technical department to do a bit better in the future. Although, I also wouldn't complain if we just got a new more powerful Switch as well :P

That's pretty dramatic. The series will continue to do just fine for a long while as long as they keep pushing out enticing games. Performance issues are nothing to ignore but saying that the only hope for survival is based on dev duties taken away from them is very silly.

Open World obviously stretched GameFreak a little thin, but they've made great progress in ambition since their early games on the Switch. No doubt they can do more, but the issue here is more time constraint and possibly budgetary issues.

That said I think there are probably quite a few fixes in the pipeline for future patches, and they just had ship the game out in it's current state to meet deadlines as many other industry games sadly run into as well.

Pokémon Company, Nintendo and GameFreak did not need to fart out THREE Pokémon games in 12 months.
The quality took a large hit with all three.
