Today, The Pokémon Company announced a new Pokémon animated series featuring a fresh storyline and characters, following dual protagonists named Liko and Roy in the Japanese version of the series. The action-packed series will also feature Paldea first partner Pokémon Sprigatito, Fuecoco, and Quaxly from Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

This next entry in the hit Pokémon animated series will premiere worldwide starting in 2023 after “Pokémon Ultimate Journeys: The Series.”

To conclude “Pokémon Ultimate Journeys: The Series,” fans can enjoy a collection of special episodes commemorating Ash’s 25-season journey to become Pokémon World Champion. The episodes feature fan-favorite characters and provide a glimpse into what the future holds for the world’s strongest Trainer and his Pikachu.

In Japan, a special Pokémon Pokémon: The Distant Blue Sky, will air on December 23rd, 2022. You can see a poster for that episode above. No details were given on this episode airing outside of Japan at this time.

Along with that, a special 11 episode series will air in Japan, titled Pokémon Aim To Be A Pokémon Master. This series will feature Ash, Brock and Misty, and will begin airing in Japan on Jan. 13th, 2023. You can see a promo video for that series above.

Hopefully now Ash can finally celebrate his 11th birthday.

I have mixed feelings on this. On one hand I’m glad the series is moving on and allowing itself to evolve, but on the other hand this just feels wrong. I’m so used to him being the main character and this change will take some getting used to.

But at least Ash might finally escape the time loop.


Yeah, it's definitely weird to see such a big change. Biggest of all would be if Pikachu is no longer a featured character. He's the face of Pokemon.
