At the end of last year, we learned that the source code for Mortal Kombat II made its way online. This obviously happened due to a leak, and we all know what happens when a leak pops up. Hopefully you got a good look at all the content that hit the internet, as now it’s been scrubbed.

Following the leak, Warner Bros.’ lawyers reached out to the gang at GitHub (where the leak was hosted) and hit them a DMCA takedown. Rather than cause a ruckus, GitHub honored the request and removed all of the content. WB’s lawyers were quick to act, as the source code was only available for roughly a day.

For those wondering, the Mortal Kombat 2 source code gave us a peek at alternate character designs, a different take on the game’s story, unused assets and more. Now all of those have been lost to the DMCA takedown, but as usual, fans will never forget!

I wouldn’t be surprised if the source is still out there somewhere. Once on the internet, always on the internet.
