We’ve covered all sorts of weird and wild stories on GoNintendo over the years, but I don’t know that we’ve ever had one quite like this. It’s a story that starts out extremely scary, but ends with everyone completely safe and sound.

The California State University Fullerton Police Department were contacted over a perceived threat from a student. The student had sent an email to one of their professors that referenced a ‘once-in-a-lifetime event,’ telling the professor to cancel class ‘for the good of humanity.’ The professor obviously was quite worried by this email, so they contacted the police.

After diving deep into the case, the police thankfully discovered the intent behind this email. As you might have guessed, the student was referencing today’s Nintendo Direct. The police did some detective work and discovered the date/time the student included in their email lined up perfectly with the Nintendo Direct.

The student ended up emailing the professor afterwards to admit it was a bad joke, but obviously, the damage was already done. Just to be safe, extra officers will be on campus today to make sure all is well.

With the horrible events that happen in Schools across the US, that is one dumb joke.

I mean I love Directs too but not in a 'misinterpreted as a possible threat to peoples safety' way

I remember when Smash Ultimate was coming out some jabroni drew the series logo next to the release date on a school whiteboard. Only problem--it came out looking exactly like a gun sight.

I swear, hype culture dulls people's judgment as much as alcohol.
