Octopath Traveler II, the sequel to Octopath Traveler, features a brand new set of eight adventurers to follow. Ahead of the game’s Feb. 24th, 2023 launch, an Easter egg has been discovered in the sequel that’s been carried over from the original game.

Just like Octopath Traveler II, the original game featured eight adventurers. In a bit of a slight Easter egg, the devs at Square Enix had a little fun with how they named the band of adventurers. You can see the original 8 characters from the first game below.

Do you notice anything going on with the characters’ names? There’s a theme, and you can find that same theme in the sequel’s cast. Take a look at the 8 characters from Octopath Traveler II below, and see if anything clicks for you.

Still not picking it up? Well, if you take a look at the first letters in each character’s name, you’ll notice that they spell out Octopath! This is very much done on purpose, as you can find the naming scheme in both the original game and the sequel. Not a discovery that means anything in the grand scheme of things, but still a neat discovery.

No wonder they didn't think of a better name than "Octopath Traveler". They didn't want to ruin their easter egg.
