Super Nintendo World officially opened its doors on Friday, and the park has been swamped by eager park-goers. While most in the states have watched with a tinge of sadness while those in Japan got to explore Super Nintendo World, now we can finally personally see what all the fuss was about!

Shigeru Miyamoto was hands-on for the launch of Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Hollywood, and in an interview with Polygon, he shared a moment he experienced where the park’s goals and presentation really came together for him.

“In the game world there’s Yoshi and Koopa Troopas, they’re always moving, so we wanted to make sure that they were always moving in real life as well. There’s concerns like ‘Is it actually going to be convincing? Is it actually going to turn out the way we want it to?’ And after seeing all of these elements come through, and actually having them all together in one place and seeing them function, I had this moment where the landscape I’m seeing really links up with my game experience that I’ve had in the past. And really it synced up and matched. And realizing all of the elements have come together to make this possible — [it] was a moment.”

Super Nintendo World is exploding with things that Mario fans will instantly recognize, along with a few Easter eggs for other franchises. Turns out Miyamoto was also considering more surprises from a recent Nintendo hit, but decided to hold off for now.

“There was discussion about adding other IPs in there, like Splatoon. But instead of having our focus scattered, we thought it would be easier to start with something focused. That’s why we ended up starting with Mario. However, because of that backdrop, if you notice, you might be able to find some other IP sprinkled in the world. So I encourage you to take a look.”

Splatoon would probably work better for Japan since it’s most popular there. But an easy activity for the park would be paint-balling.
I’d personally like to see Zelda themes done before Splatoon.
