Following a leak of details, we got the full reveal of LEGO 2K Drive earlier today, which included details on the digital and physical options. Unfortunately, it appears there’s a considerable caveat for Switch owners who want to go with a boxed copy.

You can see the cover art for LEGO 2K Drive on Switch above, but it’s the top of the box that we’re focusing on. As you can see, it appears the retail release of the game on Switch won’t actually include a game card. Instead, you’ll get a code in box, meaning you’ll need considerable storage on your Switch to snag the game.

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen a code-in-box release for Switch, and it’s not exactly a popular method of releasing games on the platform. Instead of giving physical fans the cartridge that they want, this sort of release appeals only to those who want a box to display on their shelves.

2K and the LEGO Group announced LEGO® 2K Drive, the ultimate AAA driving adventure game, will be available worldwide on May 19, 2023.

Pathetic. But we can't expect anything else from 2K.
