If you’ve been watching the Super Mario Bros. movie trailers, you’ve heard snippets of how the film’s big-name actors portray classic Mario characters. Actors like Jack Black and Keegan-Michael Key are putting their unique spins on the roles, while others like Seth Rogen aren’t masking their natural voice at all.

In an interview with Comicbook.com, Rogen was very open about his approach to Donkey Kong. Rogen made it very clear to the movie’s team that he doesn’t do voice work, and it seems like the movie’s team was perfectly okay with that. They clearly wanted a Donkey Kong that sounded exactly like Seth Rogen!

I was very clear, I don’t do voices. And if you want me to be in this movie, it’s gonna sound like me and that’s it. And that was the beginning and end of that conversation. I was like, ‘If you want Donkey Kong to sound a lot like me, I’m your guy.’ But it did seem to work, you know, I think in the film and in the game I think all you really know about Donkey Kong is that he throws barrels and he does not like Mario very much.

That’s honestly kind of what I ran with was this idea that he hates Mario, that they are kind have like an adversarial relationship, that he’s annoyed by him, that he doesn’t want to be stuck with him, that he wishes he was on this adventure without him. To me that was, that was funny and that was kind of the root of the character and it was kind of born of the mythology of the games.

That's why he shouldn't be hired as a voice actor. Stunt casting sucks :( Seth Rogen also sucks for working animation companies to bankruptcy and refusing to pay overtime.

I guess lucky for us Seth Rogen naturally sounds like a dumb, antagonistic ape.
