The NPD data for February 2023 has come in, and we’ve got a look at industry-wide numbers for gaming here in North America. First up, let’s take a look at the top 20 software sales for the month. Please remember that Nintendo doesn’t report digital sales, so any Nintendo games shown on the chart below only include physical sales.

Along with that, we have some details on overall game industry sales during the month as well.

  • Total games spending: $4.6 billion (up 6% year-on-year)
  • Software/content spending: $3.9 billion (up 1%)
  • Hardware spending: $495 million (up 68%)
  • Accessories spending: $212 million (up 13%)

As far as hardware specifics go, we know that the PlayStation 5 was #1 in terms of units sold and money made. As for Switch, it was the second best-selling platform in terms of units sold, and third in terms of revenue.

Finally, we learned that Pokémon GO moved back into the top five mobile games, thanks to in-game spending rising 23% compared to January, and 10% year-on-year.
