Nintendo and Illumination couldn’t be any happier with the debut of the Super Mario Bros. movie, as it literally couldn’t have reached a higher high.

The Super Mario Bros. movie has now hit $377 million globally in its 5-day opening, which gives it the honor of being the biggest box office for an animated feature ever. No other animated movie has managed to bring in that much money in its first 5 days, with Frozen 2 now dropping to second overall, sitting at $358 million.

The domestic side of things brought in huge revenue for the Super Mario Bros. movie, as this market accounts for $204 million. The remaining $173 million has been tallied from 70 different markets around the world.

Of course, now the question is just how far can the movie go? Is a billion dollar box office haul possible? Nintendo certainly has long-tail sellers in the world of games, but can they do the same in movies?

Wow... I'll bet Nintendo is disappointed, knowing that number could be roughly $12 higher if John Leguizamo had bought a ticket.
