Nintendo’s characters are getting more attention than ever right now thanks to the success of the Super Mario Bros. movie, and Nintendo is looking to cash in on that by re-introducing fans and newcomers alike to their characters.

In today’s special feature from Nintendo, we get a look at Jumpman’s original foil; Donkey Kong. Nintendo kicked things off with an infographic that looks at Donkey Kong’s many game designs over the years, which you can see below.

Along with that, Nintendo also shared some Donkey Kong trivia. Here’s a couple of tidbits you may or may not know.

  • Donkey Kong made his debut in 1981 with Mario, who—at the time—was called Jumpman.
  • DK hasn’t always worn a red tie. While many people may remember first seeing Donkey Kong wearing a tie in the Donkey Kong Country™ game, his signature style was actually introduced a few months earlier in 1994, appearing on the box art of the Donkey Kong™ game for the Game Boy™ system.

The only thing this tells me is that the longest stretch Donkey Kong went without a release was 11 years [1983~1994] and we are on track to break that record

Boy who are you telling...*sheesh* Nintendo give the big ape some love already. Only so many times I can replay DKC, DKC2, and Tropical Freeze on repeat.
