Miyamoto hints at more Nintendo movies in the future

Is Star Fox too much to ask for?

I don’t think anyone would be surprised to see Nintendo release more movies based on their games. The success of the Super Mario Bros. Movie, which has brought in over $700 million worldwide so far, is all the proof you need. While Nintendo isn’t ready to say what’s next for them in the world of cinema, it’s more clear than ever that other projects are coming.

Japanese publication Nikkei had the chance to chat with Shigeru Miyamoto about the success of the Mario movie, as well as Nintendo’s future in films. While Miyamoto didn’t share specifics, he did say, “Nintendo is like a talent agency. We have plenty of other entertainers.” To take things even further, Miyamoto went on to say, “There are many possible ways we could go, such as using characters that would be fit for movies, or very well-known characters.”

In other words, expect Nintendo to expand their movie output considerably in the future. There’s no doubt the Mario movie will get a sequel, but it seems that won’t be all for Nintendo in the world of movies. As Miyamoto says, there are all sorts of franchises they could work with for silver screen adaptations. The big question is, what one should they tackle next?

Nope, i think it will be Luigi's Mansion or Donkey Kong, also a Pikmin and Kirby movies are safe bets along with Mario 2

Zelda will come one day, but it has a serious storyline compared to the kid friendly Nintendo series, its for a slightly older audience may even come to a streaming service 😳

The point of Zelda is not to fill it with jokes or game references, also the plot needs to be better executed than Mario, since its a 30 hour action RPG,you need to for example divide the plot of Ocarina in 2 movies or a series

Luigi's Mansion is the most obvious choice in my opinion. It's not as risky as DK though they have laid the basis of this one also but have not convinced everyone with their depiction of the characters from that franchise.

Now this : "such as using characters that would be fit for movies, or very well-known characters." makes me think they might not necessarily go for the most obvious characters and rather with characters that fit the idea of a movie. And if you ask me the easiest Nintendo franchises to adapt in a movie are not DK and Zelda which are both respectively pretty hard to do for different reasons, but Pikmin and above all else Starfox which already has a gallery of established and developed characters, character arcs and even episodes in a defined time-line.

Now I have to admit that Luigi's Mansion ticks both boxes by being an obvious super popular choice AND particularly fitting for a movie adaptation with the Ghostbusters precedent and whatnot. So overall I would say Luigi's Mansion but otherwise definitely Starfox.

A Mario Movie sequel is the safest bet and the most logical. The main voice actors will undoubtedly have been contracted into a multi-movie deal pending the success of the first.

Zelda is not something they will jump to so quickly. People still moan about some voice acting in BOTW. Zelda also does not have anywhere near as wide an appeal and recognition as Mario.
