Super Mario Bros. Movie has highest grossing third weekend ever for an animated film

Another weekend means its time for another box office record to be broken by The Super Mario Bros. Movie. Now estimated to make $58 million by the end of Sunday, this will be the highest grossing third weekend for any animated movie ever made. What’s more, this is also the seventh highest grossing weekend total for any movie, animated or not.
Universal Studios has estimated that the film will pass a global total of $850 million by the end of Sunday. That one billion number seems more and more to be within reach, especially as there’s still two weeks before major competition is released in the form of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
