Disney Speedstorm launched on Switch a few weeks ago, and many players have apparently reported that Monsters Inc.’s Mike Wazowski is one of the strongest racers in the game. His ability, which allows players to create doors on the track in order to teleport forward, has resulted in success for many, and caused Mike to dominate many online matches.

In a recent “Community Pit Stop” article posted on Disney Speedstorm’s web site, the developers commented on this and explained why they don’t feel Mike Wazowski needs any readjustment at this time. See their full statement below.

Racer Mike Wazowski is unlockable early for all players. With Upgrade Parts being readily available for him via the Golden Pass, Mike has been a go-to choice for many players at this early stage of the game’s release. While we understand that Racer Mike is extremely popular with players, we want to make sure that everyone can experience racing with many different Disney and Pixar Racers. We have also noticed that Mike appears frequently in Ranked Multiplayer with a high win percentage.

As players upgrade other Racers to match Mike’s level, we should see other Racers and Racer Classes become top picks for players to compete with. Additionally, as more players unlock, upgrade and become comfortable with more Racers and Racer Classes, we expect to see the gameplay experience naturally balance out and a more varied set of Racers on the winner’s podium. We will continue to monitor the situation and update players.

Many players still seem to feel that the game needs further balancing, but clearly Gameloft thinks it’s too early to make any big changes. We’ll see if their theory is proven true, or if they change their minds and re-balance later on.

i'll still never get over how they defend a (literally) P2W racing game, especially one marketed towards children.
