The first Metroid remake to surpass a million in sales.

Engage didn't move sales nearly as well as people thought. They need to re-examine their writing quality.

@kingbroly

It's not the writing per se for Engage. It's another poor FE localization following Fates on 3DS: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hy1fYT7p7Pw

Granted I understand some of the romances in the Japanese version wouldn't fly in America, but NoA still made unnecessary changes outside shipping.

You can't have it both ways. You can't blame localization while also saying 'the way it was written is a no-go zone for the west.' It forces localizers to make those 'unnecessary changes' more, both in the per conversation context and overall story context.

@kingbroly

Localization is a team effort, but it doesn't help when the localizers want to be the quarterbacks of Nintendo instead of doing their jobs. NoA's localization branch has bunch of problems, not with just solely writing alone. There's also the call to make changes when no changes needed to be made for example.

Change for the sake of change is a major issue with Treehouse in the modern era. If something can work in both Japan and America, there is no need to change it for America. Otherwise you get the problem of Tokyo Mirage Sessions (that Fire Emblem crossover) where the American version was the master copy for the Switch port.

TMS on Wii U in Japan: Did fine.
TMS on Wii U in US: Bombed because of poor localization.

US copy becomes the master copy the Switch port is done from --
TMS on Switch in Japan: Bombed because the US copy was the master copy the port was done from. So the Japanese localization is poorer than the Wii U original.
TMS on Switch in the US: Still bombed because NoA didn't reverse any of the unnecessary localization changes.

Speaking for myself, Engage's art direction didn't do much for me... I'm already struggling to find time to play as is, so a game has to REALLY grab me in order to get my money.
For comparison's sake, I'm not quite sure I'll have the time to boot up my already pre-donwloaded TotK come launch day...

You would think that localization would become better and better in our day and age but it's actually the other way around.
I haven't heard of a single bombed game because it was too sexist or had too much 'japanese' stuff in it but lots and lots were bombed because they removed or changed things.

found Fire Emblem Engage technical and art direction to be far superior to the last game,its a shame to see it sell somewhat weak numbers,yep the localization was butchered and the plot isn't very strong,but Engage is still an excellent strategy game, worthy of the Fire Emblem title.

I rather play one great campaing than 3 lesser ones,TH had a lot of filler and hideous visuals

Engage sold pretty well..what are you on about?
