As spotted on the Nintendo eShop by @Genki_JPN on Twitter, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has officially been rated Everyone 10+ in North America by the Entertainment Software Ratings Board (ESRB). It shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise, as this is the same rating that Breath of the Wild received when it launched for Wii U and Nintendo Switch back in 2017. The highly anticipated sequel, Tears of the Kingdom, will be rated E10+ with the content reasons of “Fantasy Violence” and “Mild Suggestive Themes.”
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will be released exclusively for Nintendo Switch on May 12th, 2023.
Think that means the game is content complete now and all that’s left is final polish. Looking forward to May 2023.

In Europe it's rated Pegi 12+, though that's still provisional. Here's hoping that The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom gets a dual platform launch, just like BOTW did.

Should get back to BOTW and finally finish sooner than later...
Switch 2 is going to be BC for sure, but here's hoping for patches for some older games.

I don't think Switch 2 is a thing really. At least not for 2023, maybe end of the year.

Since something like the Switch 2 doesn't exist it's more likely that they release it for the Wii U as well.
There's no reason why it couldn't release on the Wii U. It's technically possible. It looks no better than BOTW, and remember the Switch in handheld mode is around the same as Wii U, if not slightly weaker.

I know we don't know much about this game, but I'm afraid it's going to be too little too late by the time it comes out. It's going to launch on severely outdated hardware and will have mechanics done better by other games like Elden Ring and God of War Ragnarok
It's funny you say that, because BotW *also* released on outdated hardware, and yet to this day there has yet to be another game as truly open-world as BotW.
Elden Ring was amazing, but still fell victim to the common issues 'open'world games have had since the genre's invention, that BotW solved years prior.
Elden Ring was good but it didn't revolutionize the 'open world' genre it feels like they just tacked on the SOULS formula on a typical open world, was far from my favorite FROM game tbh Breath of the Wild and other games still do many things better imo
The thing that ER and God of War have over Zelda is the focus on combat, Breath of the Wild is very weak on that aspect and i don't see that changing with the sequel
All the above games have different strenghts and flaws, but they do their own thing
and launching on "severly outdated hardware" doesn't mean shit when it comes to the Switch and its appeal, we have known for YEARS ToK was gonna be an original Switch game and a sequel to Breath of the Wild, if some people can't judge it fairly as a handheld game that's on them not on Nintendo, seeing it runing on Switch 2 eventually is gonna be quite interesting though

Seeing people insist on a Switch 2 that hasn’t even been brought up yet is funny. More over seeing people act as if Botw is the only “truly” open world game when there’s plenty that came before and after that pull it off in the same way. Sure, you could argue Elden Ring doesn’t tackle it the best way but there’s still The Elder Scrolls, still Fallout 3 and up, and more that have a go anywhere and do anything approach at any time.
…Which is still what Elden Ring does so I’m not following on how it’s not truly open.
BotW wasn't the first "open world" genre game, but it was the first big *truly* open game.
Other open world games gate you in some fashion or form. Even Elden ring has levels that soft-lock anyone but a pro who's already poured hundreds of hours into it from making it far into certain areas, or bosses and hard locks that just won't let you progress in the game until you do X.
BotW had 0 hard locks, and doesn't even soft-lock anything but the final boss fight.
Other than that you can do anything you want in any order, even organically the first time playing the game. (e.g. no meta-play involved.)
I was shocked to see how meaningless the FromSoft formula coupled to an open world was in Elden Ring, because if you're playing through it your first time, there's really only a handful of paths realistically possible to you due to enemy levels, boss fights, etc. soft locking you at some point, prodding you into one of the "correct" paths.
BotW had none of this, which is what made it so amazing. It also incorporated way more natural world interaction (cutting down trees to make bridges, throwing boulders, lighting fields on fire, blowing up your make-shift bridge for firewood, etc.), that still isn't even seen in open world games to this day, over 5 years later.
