RUMOR: Pokémon website source code may hint at a new Pokémon Mystery Dungeon game
Quite the mystery indeed...
On February 27, 1996, the first Pokémon video games, Pokémon Red and Pokémon Green, launched in Japan and introduced players to the concept of battling and trading Pokémon by connecting their Game Boy devices. Since then, Trainers around the world come together to celebrate their love for the brand on February 27, better known as Pokémon Day.
This year, The Pokémon Company International is celebrating the original and enduring spirit of connectivity which began with those first games by inviting Trainers to “Pokémon Together” throughout 2023. This includes a special Pokémon Together section of the Pokémon website, and fans have made quite the discovery hiding in the site’s source code.
As soon as the site opened, super fans and dataminers alike when snooping around the source code, and they discovered a Spike Chunsoft copyright. For those who don’t know, Spike Chunsoft is the developer behind the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series, so this discovery has gotten fans buzzing about what could be in the works.
Is there a new Pokemon Mystery Dungeon title in the pipeline? All eyes are on Pokemon Day now, because this source code discovery could certainly be tied to a reveal that day. Keep your fingers crossed until Feb. 27th, 2023 and hope for the best!
It has been almost three years since the remake, maybe so? Possibility of a GBA game coming to NSO too?
It's not looking like Red Rescue Team for GBA Online on Switch. The copyrights on that site would be different and an actual re-release would cut into profits for Rescue Team DX.
If this isn't some hoax or error, then it's either PMD 5 or a PMD 2 remake. The catch with 5 though is what would even be the story? Super was written to be like a grand finale after all. Yeah Spike Chunsoft could easily introduce new gameplay mechanics, but what could even be the story that just doesn't recycle story beats from the previous four games (Resuce Team through Super)?
The odds seem set that it's going to be a PMD 2 remake. Whatever the case, Keisuke Ito would have a banging soundtrack of both new tracks and remixes of old tracks though. Ito did really well in remixing Arata Iiyoshi's Red/Blue Rescue Team soundtrack for Rescue Team DX.
