Nintendo surprised fans during the last Nintendo Direct by adding Game Boy and GBA games to the Switch Online service. Soon after that, eagle-eyed fans noted that the Japanese version of the Switch Online Expansion Pass trailer was updated, removing a line about not being able to transfer Pokémon to Pokémon Stadium. Many believed the removal of this line and the expansion of Switch Online legacy platforms was proof positive that we’d soon be able to play classic Pokémon games on Switch and transfer them to Pokémon Stadium. Unfortunately, today brings us some news that points in the other direction.

Nintendo has just released the updated English version of the Switch Online Expansion Pass trailer, and as you can see in the image above, the line about the inability to transfer Pokémon has been reinserted. If you were holding out hope for classic Pokémon game transfers, this line is most likely the nail in the coffin.

Of course, nothing is definitive at this time. We don’t know why the line was removed in the first place, nor do we know why it was added back in. Let’s hope Nintendo is just trying to throw fans off the scent of an announcement down the line.
