Georgia man arrested after using Covid relief funds to buy a rare Pokémon card for $57,789

Pokémon fans have dreamt of owning a mint condition, first-edition, shadowless, holographic Charizard card since its 1999 debut, but a man in Georgia took things a bit too far in order to obtain his own.
Sentenced to three years in prison with no parole, Vinath Oudomsine committed a serious case of wire fraud to receive a Covid relief fund from the US government. The 31-year-old falsely claimed to own a small business, illegally earning himself $85,000 USD in the process. After receiving the funds, he proceeded to use $57,789 of it to purchase the aforementioned 9.5 gem minted Pokémon card.
In addition to his prison sentence, he will spend three years under supervised release. The man has also been ordered to pay the $85,000 in restitution, alongside a fine of $10,000. As for the sought-after Charizard card, it will be sent to the prosecutors.
