Nintendo suggested the direction for Bayonetta Origins, Platinum devs joke about a Bayonetta fighting game
The magic of Bayonetta
Bayonetta fans have been eating good lately. Both Bayonetta 3 and Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon launched recently, giving franchise followers plenty to dig into. Turns out we have Nintendo to thank for at least one of those titles.
Famitsu magazine recently had a chat with PlatinumGames’ Hideki Kamiya and Abebe Tinari, along with Nintendo producer Makoto Okazaki. In that chat, we learn about a whole bunch of conversations surrounding the Bayonetta franchise, including how Bayonetta Origins came to be.
It turns out the path that led to Bayonetta Origins started with Nintendo themselves, as Nintendo and Platinum were talking about doing something more with the Bayonetta franchise. After some discussion, this led to Nintendo suggesting a Bayonetta prequel game, and this resonated with Platinum. As a matter of fact, Kamiya said he had a chat with Inaba years ago about doing a Bayonetta title that took place years ago, so the idea has been floating around for quite some time.
That’s not the only ideas Platinum has been kicking around for Bayonetta titles going forward. Kamiya says that other things were discussed, but not in any serious manner. For example, Kamiya reveals that he’d love to do a spin-off title that puts Jeanne in the spotlight, while his fellow developers often chat about what a Bayonetta fighting game could be like. Again, there have been no serious discussions about taking these ideas and running with them, but you never know what the future holds!
