Donkey Kong Country Returns HD is coming to Switch on January 16th, 2024, giving fans yet another chance to take on this fantastic platformer. The game is also looking better than ever, thanks to some considerably improved visuals due to the Switch’s beefier hardware. That said, there do appear to be some areas where the Wii version might have a leg up.

The video above compares Donkey Kong Country Returns on Wii to the upcoming Switch HD version, and there are some odd omissions and changes that have been discovered. From missing special effects to lighting changes, there are definitely some spots where the Wii did things a bit different.

There’s still half a year until Donkey Kong Country Returns HD sees release, so there’s plenty of time left to get things in line with the Wii version. We’ve actually seen Nintendo do this kind of thing in the past, with trailers for games closer to launch showing sizable upgrades in the graphics department. Whether that happens with Donkey Kong Country Returns HD remains to be seen.
