Super Monkey Ball: Banana Rumble is out on Switch today as an exclusive, and so far it seems this entry is the return to form for the franchise that fans have been hoping for. Simple, yet entertaining and challenging stages that keep you coming back time and time again. It was what made the franchise popular in the first place, and at least one person at SEGA recognizes that.

Yukio Oda was a level designer for Super Monkey Ball: Banana Rumble, and he made sure to keep the original Super Monkey Ball in mind when building this fresh outing. In an interview with Polygon, Oda explains why it was important to remember what made Super Monkey Ball so great when building Banana Rumble.

“I think that the originality of the first Super Monkey Ball is the DNA of the series, so I made Banana Rumble keeping all of this in mind while also trying to adapt it to the changing times and the needs of the players.”
