Hironobu Sakaguchi, the father of Final Fantasy, is finally working with Square Enix once again thanks to their partnership with FANTASIAN Neo Dimension. Many saw this as the door opening for Sakaguchi to work on some of Square Enix’s classics or Sakaguchi’s other works, but the man himself says that’s not happening.

In an interview with Bloomberg, Sakaguchi talked about how nice it was to be working with Square Enix again, but that doesn’t mean he’s looking to get back into the Final Fantasy franchise again. It’s quite the opposite actually, with Sakaguchi saying,* “If I take on the Final Fantasy brand again, I don’t know if I’ll be able to genuinely enjoy Final Fantasy XIV as much.”*

The same apparently goes for other franchise Sakaguchi birthed while working at Square Enix. If you were hoping something like Blue Dragon: Awakened Shadow from the DS would make the leap to Switch or its successor (or any other platform for that matter), it’s time to lose that hope. Sakaguchi said that he has no interest in bringing older games to modern platforms.
