Nintendo is constantly worried about people using their characters in inappropriate ways. Be it a fan game or something nefarious, Nintendo is constantly watching for unofficial representations released to the public, and they’re out to squash those efforts.

Nintendo just held their 84th Annual General Meeting of Shareholders, and with it came a question and answer session. Two of the questions pertained to Nintendo’s IP being infringed upon, and how that may devalue their characters and franchises. Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa responded with comments on Nintendo’s goals with their IP and consumer, as well as the continued efforts to protect their properties. I guess it's the shareholders that are spooked and are causing Nintendo to go after modders or modding platforms like Garry's Mod and other long time modding places. =/
