The most recent Nintendo Direct revealed that Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake is making its way to Switch on November 14th, 2024. This installment in the series was the first to let players pick between a male and female protagonist, and while the idea behind that mechanic is being retained for this remake, the approach is being modernized.

We’ve learned that when it comes to Japanese voice work, Nobuyuki Hiyama will be voicing the “Appearance A” heroes, and Yuko Minaguchi will be voicing the “Appearance B” heroes. The original version of Dragon Quest III give players the option of choosing between a male and female lead, while Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake is instead opting for “Appearance A” and “Appearance B” labels. Still, making your choice here will result in a lead character with a traditionally male or female voice/appearance.

In Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake, set out on an epic fantasy adventure as The Hero to save the world from the dark forces of the evil Archfiend, Baramos. Travel through a vast world full of towns, dungeons and caves to explore, meet a cast of lively characters and fight ferocious monsters in modernized turn-based battles.
