Sonic Origins is set for release on Nintendo Switch in just about a month, on June 23rd, 2022. A remastering of some of Sonic’s earliest adventures, this collection will feature a number of brand new modes, including one called Story mode. Story mode allows you to play through Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic 3 & Knuckles, and Sonic CD in chronological order. However, a section from the game’s web site makes it appear that playing in this mode will only allow you to play as Sonic, and not as Tails or Knuckles in any capacity.

The good news is that the game will still allow Tails and Knuckles fans to enjoy those characters when playing in the Classic or Anniversary modes. The benefit of playing Story mode will be a series of new cut scenes, and a slightly different perspective on the series as a whole. For some longtime fans of the series, this news may be disappointing, but at least the classic versions of these levels are still available as a backup option. Of course, no new characters have been added to the mix either, so don’t get excited for a playable Amy Rose or Metal Sonic.

We’ll be able to tear into Sonic Origins, including all of its unique modes when the game is released next month. Let us know if you’re excited to experience these titles in a new format with Story mode, or if you plan on sticking to the original formula.
