Satoru Iwata, president of Nintendo, has passed away

''On my business card, I am a corporate president. In my mind, I am a game developer. But in my heart, I am a gamer.''

The following statement was made by Nintendo Company Limited...

Satoru Iwata has passed away, due to the complications of a bile duct growth. While he has been treated before, no one of us knew how severe the problems were. This makes it so shocking, sudden and incredibly depressing. We wish everybody who knew him all the best. Nintendo will never be the same company again and his contributions will never ever be forgotten. Satoru Iwata, thank you so much for everything.

Both Genyo Takeda and Shigeru Miyamoto have been named 'Representative Director' due to Iwata's passing. They will most likely be replaced when a decision is made on someone to fill the position permanently.

I am anxious as to who will take the reins now, though...

Oh no... this is awful. Sad So suddenly and soon... I can't imagine how his family and the folks at Nintendo themselves must be feeling. I hope this doesn't affect the company's future, but at least he's in a better place. R.I.P. Satoru Iwata, 1959-2015.

Thank you for all the memories.

Rest in peace Satoru Iwata, you will me missed.

I couldn't believe it when I saw it at first. Iwata has left such a lasting impression on Nintendo over the years. I feel like I lost a good friend, even though I never met him. May you rest in peace Iwata, and thank you for everything.

I don't know how I'm going to get through the rest of the day now. Maybe I'll play some Earthbound in tribute to him...

My sincerest condolences go out to not only his immediate family, but the entire video game community the world over. He will be sorely missed.

I'm just...really in shock right now. I loved that man and what he has done for the gaming community over the years.

Sad beyond words.... RIP

seemed to be the most honourable CEO in the industry. The idea of the CEO of a company like EA or Activision taking a pay cut before laying off another 100 hundred of their employees is simply laughable. Awful news
