Miyamoto comments on the wildlife in Zelda: Breath of the Wild

The following comes from Game Informer's feature on The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

I really love all the animals in the world. Even with the horses, you really get to know the horse and raise them and ride them, and even with the other animals, you can just view them, or if you get hungry you might have to hunt them. You have that choice. And even when you look up at the sky, you see birds on their way somewhere and it's fun to think, "Where are they going to end up? Where are they going?" - Shigeru Miyamoto

When I find a fox I am gonna go see where it goes. I will never ever ever hurt one. and if any enemy accidentally kills one I am gonna throw so many bombs at them!!! Don't mess with foxes!

Where are the birds going? I think to that floating bird island in the sky or to a secret island that has treasure hidden on it. Dang it, thanks S.M for making me go crazy now!

But what if you call Wolf Link and he suddenly kills a fox?

Whatever would you do?!

Save immediately before. Then reload the file.

Daww. *hugs*

Don't worry, I doubt it'll randomly attack any Foxes. ^^

If you save immediately before, then you'll have to watch Wolf Link maul a fox over and over again every time you load that save file, though...

*deletes 157 hour file and starts over*

I just hope canids in the game do the squeaky yawn like in the trailer.

This helps my theory that there are a variety of animal buddies even further as I have put here on GoNintendo before. Miyamoto's words (and Nintendo in general) are always putting out tea leaves for us to decipher.

I'd hope you can at least get canine partners. I mean, it's be weird for them to have a full on partner AI implemented in the game, but it's exclusively for the Wolf Link Amiibo.

Birds are going away to be culled by the camera and eventually destroyed from memory, only to be repopulated when the next AI scenario deems it acceptable.

This is how I used to think about Pokémon. In particular, the random encounters I am trying to catch. When they struggle and refuse to get caught, I keep thinking "You're temporary data now! If I don't catch you, you'll disappear forever! Don't you want to become permanent data? You'd rather choose non-existence over existence with me?"

"You'd rather choose non-existence over existence with me?"

Hahahaha. In no context, that sounds like something a stalker would say.

Who says I'm not? By the way, nice shirt you're wearing today

Love how your rank is currently a ninja too Smile

No magic in the universe. Cold, harsh truths. Sad

Hopefully this game continues the proud Zelda tradition of letting Link mind-control birds.

Well, beedle is in the game. Maybe he will sell those pears from WW that let you control birds.

I wonder if you CAN follow those birds to see where they lead... if they don't disappear.

I love animals, too, and I kill them, too

I hope I can kill other NPCs' pets.

I'm gonna hunt so hard.
