Minecraft: New 3DS Edition - more info, no online, local multiplayer coming, developed by Other Ocean Interactive

Just a few months after we brought Minecraft to Nintendo Switch, we're double-dipping with the big N to bring the game to New Nintendo 3DS. Whatever next, an N64 port? Get on it, Jens!

We want to stress that the game is only on New Nintendo 3DS, and we've used all the technical might of the dual-screened wonder machine to give you world sizes of 2016x2016 and 128 blocks high – that's even larger than the worlds on the Wii U version! Multiplayer won't be available at launch but we will be adding local multiplayer in a future update. This edition's closest equivalent is 0.15.4 of Minecraft: Pocket Edition, and we'll be continuing to update from there!

That dual screen setup helps make crafting easier than ever, with quicker access to your inventory and a handy map on the touch screen, perfect for charting out your worlds. Take a scroll through some screenshots below:

We've also bundled five skin packs and two texture packs with this version of the game. Which ones, you ask? Well why not head over to the Nintendo 3DS eShop and find out? As it's available right now in America (And in Europe very very soon!) Happy crafting!

Create. Expore. Survive.

Minecraft is a game about placing blocks and going on adventures.

Only playable on the New Nintendo 3DS series.

Explore randomly‐generated worlds and build amazing things from the simplest of homes to the grandest of castles. Play in Creative Mode with unlimited resources or mine deep into the world in survival mode, crafting weapons and armor to fend off the dangerous mobs.

Create and explore your very own world where the only limit is what you can imagine.
Includes five skin packs and two texture packs to customize your gameplay!
Use the touch screen to check your map or manage your inventory!

Bigger than Wii U. I feel bad for my poor Wii U *continues to neglect it while playing Switch and New 3DS*

Really sucks that it's currently single player only at launch and with seemingly no online multiplayer releasing, and with Miiverse being removed soon, it really takes all the connectivity out of this version. It's going to feel a lot like Super Mario Maker 3DS. It's a feat to port it all, but it comes at the cost of some really entertaining aspects and for some, the main reason they play to begin with.

And still no touch screen aiming. Very disappointing.

I feel like they said you could choose touch controls in the Direct, though I may be mistaken.

(Updated 1 time)

Yeah, they were only talking about inventory & crafting. I don't think the people at Microsoft even understand the concept of aiming with a stylus or gyro... And yet they think the little nub is actually a viable option for controlling a first person view, most of the industry is simply way behind with things like these.

3D will make this version stand out, even in the future.

Is it 3D?

I read there is no 3D effect, though.

Part of me thinks, "Why now? The time to do this was a year or two ago." But the rest of me is just impressed that they pulled it off. I suppose it's still a decent option for kids who want to play Minecraft on the go but don't yet have a Switch and don't enjoy playing it on smart phones.

*cough* Hope 3D is eventually added...

You -that- Kholdstare?

I'm still waiting on a physical copy for Switch.

Bigger than Wii U worlds? What the what?

That dual screen setup helps make crafting easier than ever, with quicker access to your inventory and a handy map on the touch screen, perfect for charting out your worlds.

Any particular reason that they couldn't be bothered to do this on Wii U?
