I can assure you, it's not. A succes story for Nintendo was just badly needed at the time and so on day one of release of the new Zelda game it was used to give the Switch a push. Others just needed to get their review out in before others and only really played the best part of the game (the beginning). Problem is all these people can't really go back once they scored a game, so these reviews might just be infinitely inaccurate now.

Don't get me wrong though, it was a great game! I probably rate it somewhere between 8 and 9,5 myself. Some nice new ideas went into it as well. But that is with every Zelda game the case. I'm just having a hard time to see all that praise that is kinda overlooking the fact that some very important and great things from the Zelda franchise went missing in this game. We must not be giving off the wrong signals to our friends that create these fantastic games. I think it'd be better to stay honest and not try to rush our judgements, so our response won't be off for the rest of our lives. You'll see after a few years this won't be the Zelda game that is on most of our top 10 lists best Zelda ever. I guess it'll still be A Link to the Past, The Wind Waker or Ocarina of Time.

I think it's now clear to everyone that BotW is indeed the OoT it wanted to be not only to its own series but also to the whole industry.

After I started this game I just can't get back into FO4 which I played before that. BOTW is so open and free that I have no idea how they can top this. The entire concept of not having the story given to you is a gem. You decide what where and how. The openess gives so much immersion that I feel I am actually in Hyrule is amazing. Yeah, it has it's flaws like all games, but it is unique. I was/am telling my own story while playing this and from videos from other gamers, it seems I am not alone on that one!

I have been playing SMO these days, and the game is AMAZING, but Team Zelda takes this award!

P.S: CupHead takes my second spot this year! What a charming game Smile

Oh you silly Japanese. No Metroid: Samus Returns, but then they've never appreciated how truly great the Metroid series is. BOTW deserves top Wii U title as it's as it's a Wii U game and another Switch port.

What!?!?!? Mario lost?!?!?! What's with Japan!?!?!

DRAGON QUEST XI being the best 3DS game of 2017? Suuuure.

Why? Is it bad? I've only heard good things about it.

It just seems that Japan is WAY too much into the series. Every time a new game gets announced they kinda freak out and the new game stays at the top of almost every most wanted list until its release.
I've played 6 out of the 11 main games and let me tell you something: They're mediocre as all hell. Even the highly praised DQVIII is just a neat game that didn't change the outdated formula a bit.
From what I can tell DQXI is another solid (but still outdated) entry in the franchise, but comparing it with masterpieces such as the Persona-, FINAL FANTASY-, or Tales series would be blasphemy.

I still got to play through my NDS copy of DQV: The Hand of the Heavenly Bride. But these kind of games take a whole lot of time to complete.. : /

Ahh... I happen to like that "outdated formula", so I guess that's a case of YMMV. :O

And I don't like FF outside of FFIX, and I only played Tales because I had friends that really liked to play coop, never really got into it myself. I wouldn't go around saying they are bad games though, maybe I just have bad taste. Eh.
(Not that I accuse you of that...)
