GN Version 5.0

The Legend of Zelda franchise certainly has its fans in Japan, but it's not nearly as popular as it is in places like North America. With that said, it seems like the praise and excitement surrounding Zelda: Breath of the Wild was just too much for Japanese gamers to ignore.

Over in Japan, Zelda: Breath of the Wild is now the highest-selling Zelda game since Ocarina of Time, which launched all the way back in 1998. Even more impressive, the sales data for Breath of the Wild in Japan doesn't include digital sales, nor does it have the most recent figures on the Wii U version. By the time the Switch is said and done, we could see Breath of the Wild actually overtake Ocarina of Time in sales!
