Phillies player smashes TV with baseball bat after seeing his fellow teammates being distracted by Fortnite

The poor TV didn't do anything!

Fortnite has been blamed for all sorts of problems, from distractions at work to children performing poorly. Those complaints have even boiled over to the world of sports, where various athletes claim that their teammates "addiction" to Fortnite has caused them to lose real-world games. The latest example of that comes from Phillies player Carlos Santana.

According to Santana, his teammates were playing too much Fortnite. He felt the video game mattered more to them than their real-life games of baseball.

“I see a couple players — I don’t want to say names — they play video games during the game. We come and lose too many games, and I feel like they weren’t worried about it. Weren’t respecting their teammates or coaches or the staff or the [front] office.”

The baseball season wasn't going too well for the Phillies towards the end, and they lost their chance of making it to the playoffs. After a particularly rough loss late in the season to the Atlanta Braves, Santana decided he had enough. This was a real-life game where numerous players on the team stayed in the clubhouse playing Fortnite. This annoyed Santana even more, which is why he rushed into the clubhouse with a baseball bat and smashed the team's TV to pieces. He wanted to make sure the team had no way of playing Fortnite anymore, as he found it to be a huge problem.

Believe it or not, Santana's standing with the team at large seems to be decent right now. The event has passed, and things have been smoothed over. With that said, Santana still doesn't understand why the team would let Fortnite distract them from a real-life game.

“I don’t know what happened, but I’ve never seen that in my life — during the game, playing video games. It’s not professional. Each team is everybody all together. I understand we’re eliminated for the season, but you have to have pride.”

While I don't agree with Santana's actions one bit, I can understand his frustration. When you're playing professional baseball, that is your job. To play Fortnite before and after a real-life game is just fine. To be cooped up in the clubhouse playing Fortnite during a baseball game? That seems disrespectful to all involved.
