Remember back when Child of Light 2 was teased in no uncertain terms by the game's Creative Director? Well it seems that teasing was a bit premature. In an interview with VGC, Child of Light Creative Director Patrick Plourde now says that a sequel doesn't seem too likely.

“Right now, I don’t think there’s a Child of Light 2 being produced…I’m not holding my breath…I don’t think it’s the type of game that Ubisoft wants to make…In terms of portfolio, it’s still supported – we ported it on Switch and we’re still selling a bunch of copies, but it’s just that right now it’s all about games as a service. We can make money out of it, but you can make more money elsewhere. That’s the problem of not being independent while making this.”

That's a real shame to hear, but not a surprising one. Big-name publishers are focusing on games that keep money rolling in long after launch through various DLC and events. Child of Light simply isn't that kind of series, and adding that kind of content to a sequel would pretty much ruin the experience.
