Your Switch software can be used between Switch and Switch Lite

Play your way

This shouldn't be too much of a surprise, but it's still important to make note of. If you are planning on buying a Switch Lite, you'll be happy to know that as long as you link the same Nintendo Account, you'll be able to re-download the same titles you have on your Switch. You just can't play the game on both the Switch and Switch Lite at the same time.

Nintendo is working on something to allow transfer of games from Switch and Switch Lite, which will likely handle transfer of other data as well. More details on this transfer option will be shared at a later date.

Yeah I really don't get these articles. It's already possible to transfer all your data to a new Switch, and it's already possible to log on to a new Switch and just download your games/cloud saves. It will be the same with Switch Lite.

Isn't that the standard for multiple Switches on the same account now?

Yep. All already possible. Clearly it's not well known enough for people to get this.

People are calling this old news, but I didn't know it. Good to hear. Not that I'll be getting a Switch Lite, but I"m glad they're making it convenient.

So does this mean you can say have your games and date on both switches, or is it just like, you can transfer everything over, but in doing so, delete everything off the original switch?

As long as you have a Nintendo online account everything will be saved to the cloud which will keep both systems updated with the same save file

So once you finish play a game and save it, the switch will update the save file to the cloud and will download the new save file on the other system so no matter which system u play on you will have the same save file

But can I say redownload BOTW on a new switch, and still be able to play it on both, or is it just the ability to transfer games from one to the other?

You can play it on both systems and once you save it the game is saved on both systems since it saves to the cloud

Only thing with Nintendo online is that you can’t play both systems at same time so say you have Mario kart and you want to play with someone you can’t connect online with same account info so only one person can play at a time

Let’s say you left both your switch at home you can continue your game on someone else switch since all your info saved to the cloud

Too Many Exceptions

I considered getting a Switch Lite for my children, but they actually like being able to play on the TV, Tabletop, and Handheld modes. It might have been worth it if they could still play on mine using their accounts. Then, they could still occasionally play in the other modes. However, this is not going to work for Splatoon 2, Pokemon Let's Go, Pokemon Sword & Shield, and Animal Crossing. Too many critical games do not support Cloud Saves, so it's just not going to be worth it.
