PopCap stole from Nintendo haha from r/PvZGardenWarfare

This random post over on Reddit lead to me putting in a lot more research than I expected to! It all started with a Redditor who shared the video above. It supposedly shows that the Bowser theme from New Super Mario Bros. Wii is found in the files for Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville. As you can see in the clip, the exact song ripped straight from NSMBW is supposedly in the game's data, but you don't hear it in the game itself. This is what lead me to do a bit more research.

Based on the file where the song is located, I did some snooping for the Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville soundtrack. I came up with the song above, which is "Dreadwood's Theme." Now let's compare that to the NSMBW theme for Bowser.

There's no doubt some major inspiration was taken from the NSMBW theme. It's almost like the composer just went along with what Nintendo did, changed things up a tad, and called it a day.

Furthermore, people in the comments of the Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville soundtrack upload on YouTube have made the connection between the two songs, stating that they sound very similar. This is independent of the Redditor who shared his findings.

With all this sussed out, I'd think the composer on Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville played things a bit too closely to his inspiration, and then forgot to cover up his tracks...literally!
