Dear Reader:
Fan builds his own SNES Playstation add-on
The SNES Playstation was almost an official product. A collaboration between Nintendo and Sony, the SNES Playstation would have been an add-on for the SNES that would allow for CD game play. It was basically the PS1 as we know it nowadays. Instead of seeing release, Nintendo got cold feet at the last minute, and the deal was nixed. Sony went on to release the hardware on their own and called it the Playstation, and the rest is history.
While there is indeed a SNES Playstation prototype out in the wild, that's a pricey collector's item. What if you want one, but you don't have the endless amounts of cash needed to buy the prototype? You make your own, of course! That's exactly what Gamer_Iafan has done!
The add-on was made by taking some parts of the Satellaview Super Famicom attachment and reworking them. The final result looks pretty damn close to the real thing, and better yet, it all still functions! As you can see in the video above, the add-on can be stacked up and used to play actual PS1 games. A glimpse of what could have been if Nintendo went ahead with the partnership.
