Crazy how New Horizons is on the verge of becoming the best selling Switch title in a mere matter of months compared to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and how it took 3 years to get where its at. Yeah MK8 is a port and New Horizons is a brand new game but its still awesome to see and Im not even a huge fan of New Horizons.

Bah! BOTW may have outdone SMO but SMO will top it again soon. Because NO ONE MESSES WITH SUPER MARIO!

Sorry, buddy, but the data is against you. BotW has consistently outsold SMO every quarter for many quarters. And this time it outsold SMO by A LOT considering they were technically tied last time

Eh. Anything can happen. So we'll just see how long BOTW can sell higher than SMO.

But then again, combining SMO with SMM2 and NSMBUD outdoes the two Zelda games so there. NO ONE MESSES WITH SUPER MARIO!

I was expecting a non-believer answer, so here comes the data:

For the past six consecutive quarters, BotW has outsold SMO. This means that in the past year and a half the total sales were:

BotW: 6.92 million
SMO: 4.30 million

Now, if you wanna cheat, just go all in and add Mario Kart 8 Deluxe ;)

(Updated 1 time)

I'd argue that part of that was because BOTW had more discounts than SMO. And I didn't cheat because you didn't include the other two mainline Mario games as well which just shows that they outdid both Zelda games combined. Datas can change over time. Once the sequel shows up, the sales of the original will begin to decline.

But I'll let this slip as this is just one Zelda game that outdid the Super Mario.

1 - I' d argue you will have a a really hard time proving to me you have worldwide data of the discounts provided by BotW and SMO, when, for how long and for how much.

2 - 2D and 3D games, even on the same series, have sold drastically different.

3 - We don't have up to date data on Link's Awakening and Super Mario Maker 2 since they are not in the Top 10 Sales Chart for the Switch and didn't sell over 1 million units in the past quarter.

4 - Comparing 2 agains 3 doesn't seem fair unless there is a specific reason for it.

5 - Data (no plural) does change over time. It's one of the easiest ways to spot fake data. However, for one year and a half BotW has sold on average over 60% more than Odyssey (this last quarter was 80+% more), BotW2 has no release date in sight and there's no new content for Odyssey to help increase sales. So the trend indicates the the current lead of 0.54 million units by BotW will continue to grow.

6 - How much BotW 2 will affect BotW sales. How much a potential rerelease of past 3D Mario games will affect Odyssey is something extremely difficult to even begin to predict. But I can tell you that it will have to affect BotW a lot to make this a race again.

Finally, using the last two reports and Nintendo's rules of announcements, it can be deduced that New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe has sold more than Link's Awakening. Both not original Switch titles, both 2D. There's your Super Mario victory Smile

Comparing 2 against 3 doesn't seem fair unless there is a specific reason for it.

And comparing sales of BOTW against SMO isn't fair either considering that the former was sold on two consoles, unlike SMO.

2D and 3D games, even on the same series, have sold drastically different.

Still outdid Zelda though.

Sure sure, degrade Mario's level in 2D when clearly Super Mario has just as much of a chance in 3D as well.

And comparing sales of BOTW against SMO isn't fair either considering that the former was sold on two consoles, unlike SMO.

I'm not using the sales of the Wii U version. It's BotW Switch and SMO Switch.

Sure sure, degrade Mario's level in 2D when clearly Super Mario has just as much of a chance in 3D as well.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by that. I compared a 2D Mario with a 2D Zelda, Mario won. I compared a 3D Mario with a 3D Zelda, Zelda won.
If you believe that 3D Mario games sell better than the 2D games I recommend taking a look at the historical figures to educate yourself. The fact that SMO is the best selling Mario platformer on the Switch is the anomaly, not the rule.

Right. Sorry about that. I got carried away so my bad on that part.

No worries Smile We're all human

Impressive attach rate ratio numbers.
Mario Kart and Animal Crossing at over 33% with BOTW, Smash, Odyssey and Pokemon not far off it.

Nintendo attach rate always seems quite high. Wii U even though it sold quite poorly, had a very high attach rate.

So the Switch in this random quarter sold 1.38 million units more than the PS4 in its first 3 months oO
Nintendo is clearly doomed!!

Glad to see Xenoblade selling well for the series Smile
I'm curious to see the Animal Crossing sales in the next financial report. Because it came out so close to the end of one quarter, the huge sales numbers kinda bled over to this one.

MK8D, the 3 year-old port of a 6-year-old game sold almost 2 million units in three months at full price (or at least close to it). I believe Nintendo is saving the next entry to the launch window of the next system and MK8D will end you outselling MKWii
