It took Monster Hunter quite a long time to find its footing outside of Japan, but Capcom managed to pull it off. The series is now a success around the world, and Capcom is looking to parlay that into a film adaptation. According to a Polygon interview with director Paul W.S. Anderson, this is something he's been looking to do for the better part of a decade.

The really big challenge, or really big pressure, was to do it justice. I’ve long been a fan of the video game. I discovered it in Japan 12 years ago when it was pretty much a Japanese-only phenomena, before the rest of the world discovered what Monster Hunter was. I started talking to Capcom 10 years ago about adapting it into a movie. This really is a long-term passion project of mine and I’m approaching it not just as a filmmaker but also as a kind of long-term player and fan of it.
