Pac-Man DLC available for Minecraft today

It's hip to be square

It’s PAC-MAN’s 40th birthday today! WOOHOO! Excuse me, I mean WAKA-WAKA! This iconic character and close personal friend is the star of one of the most legendary games of all time. To mark this special milestone, we want to celebrate by releasing the new PAC-MAN DLC in the Marketplace!

Unlock new power-ups and avoid ghosts as you make your way through the 3D mazes! Played through all ten stages? Well, build your own maze then. No seriously, do it! It’s lots of fun. You can even challenge your friends to what I have now dubbed “a maze-off”. None of them have accepted but all of them have called me hack. I hope you have better luck and better friends.

You can find the new PAC-MAN DLC in the Marketplace. Good luck and remember to keep an eye out for Inky, Pinky, Blinky, Clyde, and Creepy!

Minecraft hits 200 million units sold

An insane amount of success

Minecraft has been around for 11 years now, believe it or not. In that time, the game has only grown in popularity. It's the worldwide phenomenon that just can't be stopped.

As of today, Microsoft has confirmed that Minecraft has now topped 200 million. Along with that, the game has 126 million active players each month. That's an absolutely staggering number considering how old the game is. In just the last month alone, Minecraft saw a 25 percent increase in new players and a 40 percent spike in multiplayer sessions.

Thanks to Dondom95 for the heads up!

Minecraft wins 'Favorite Video Game' at the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards 2020

But did Alex get slimed?

There was some stiff competition in this year's Favorite Video Game category at the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards 2020, but the people have spoken. Fortnite, Mario Kart Tour, and Smash Bros. Ultimate all lost to Minecraft this year. Surprisingly, Just Dance didn't even make the cut for nominations, and that title has cleaned up in the past!

Mojang teams with United Nations Development Program and Heart17 to spread the word on coronavirus protection through Minecraft

No matter what part of the world you live in, you are likely experiencing strange and scary times at the moment, as the novel coronavirus continues to spread through our communities.

But even during this time, there are glimmers of hope, as individuals, organizations, and companies come together to help. Maybe you’ve seen people singing from balconies to lift spirits, or assisting elderly neighbors with their grocery shopping. It’s heartwarming stuff!

If you’re among the healthcare or service professionals who help society run, we’re all indebted to you. But even if you’re “just” staying home, you’re blocking the pathways for Covid-19 and keeping it from spreading. Thank you for that!
At Mojang, we find that distributing factual information is incredibly important, as that information will help people make informed decisions, which in turn may save lives. One thing we’re doing to help is teaming up with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and their partner, Heart17. Together, we’ll spread the word under the banner of #TomorrowTogether.

Over the next week or so, we are devoting space in all of our social channels to important health advice derived from the World Health Organization’s recommendations. So if you suddenly come across a Creeper asking you to wash your hands, don’t worry: their agenda has not permanently changed. In the game, they still want nothing more than to get cozy with you and proceed to blow up. But in our social channels, and for the time being, they also want to help put an end to the pandemic.
We’re honored to be part of this initiative, and hope it will help inch the world toward a future free of Covid-19.
Take care and stay safe!
