Some fans are convinced that the next Fortnite crossover could be with Five Nights at Freddy's

The man behind the rumor.

Fans of both Fortnite and Five Nights at Freddy's have been compiling evidence that a crossover between the two franchises could be in order.

Speculation began when well-known Fortnite leaker "HYPEX" discovered hidden files through a datamine of the latest Fortnite update. These files include footstep sound effects that resemble Foxy's dash to the office door in the original FNAF, and an unreleased skin codenamed "FrenchFry." In the past, the first letter of each word in a Fortnite codename ended up perfectly matching the character's name. For example, "TourBus" was the codename for Tyler "Ninja" Blevins. The "FF" initials pair up nicely with "Freddy Fazbear," the main antagonist in the FNAF franchise.

If you're still not convinced, some Fortnite content creators received a promotional teaser package from Epic Games containing a bag of tokens, which are similar to the ones found at arcades like Chuck-E-Cheese (however, others think this could be hinting at Geralt from The Witcher).

The "evidence" of this crossover is admittedly very vague, but Freddy Fazbear would somewhat fit the "Bounty Hunter" theme of Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 5. We'll just have to wait and see!

Maximum Games Announces Physical Release of Two Five Nights at Freddy’s Games

Not-so family friendly fun

Five Nights at Freddy's fans have not one, but two physical releases to enjoy on Switch. Both games are available for pre-order today, and you can get the full breakdown in the press release below.

Global video game publisher Maximum Games is partnering with Steel Wool Studios and ScottGames to bring Five Nights at Freddy’s: Help Wanted and Five Nights at Freddy’s: Core Collection to retail on December 15 and January 12, respectively. Help Wanted is a collection of classic and original minigames set in the Five Nights universe available for PlayStation 4 (VR compatible) and Nintendo Switch. The Core Collection will be available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch and includes the first five mainline titles in the FNAF universe that started it all: Five Nights at Freddy’s, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, Five Nights at Freddy’s 3, Five Nights at Freddy’s 4, and Five Nights at Freddy’s: Sister Location.

Join the crew at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza and discover why children and adults alike love Freddy and his animatronic friends as you survive a series of terrifying encounters with the cast of murderous machines that roam the halls of the pizzeria at night. Both Help Wanted and Core Collection provide a wealth of fearsome fun that gamers have come to know and love in the Freddy series.

Help Wanted invites players to experience the horror in flat (non-VR) mode or VR (PlayStation only) as you relive classic scenes that have been updated for a fully immersive experience. Earn fun prizes at the Prize Counter and collect well-hidden Faz-Tokens to unlock rare collectibles. Five Nights at Freddy’s: Help Wanted is available physically December 15, 2020 on PS4/PSVR and Nintendo Switch.

Five Nights at Freddy’s: Core Collection rolls five exciting titles all into one bundle. Newcomers will meet a colorful cast of characters including Bonnie, Chica, Foxy and Freddy Fazbear himself. Survive the night by monitoring the suspicious activity of the haunted animatronics that come alive at night. The Core Collection arrives physically on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch January 12, 2021.

Both FNAF titles are available to pre-order today.

Five Nights at Freddy's movie producer says the project is still active, but the team is still figuring out how to handle the story

Five Years at Freddy's

A movie adaptation of Five Nights at Freddy's was announced awhile back, but not much has been heard since the initial reveal. Fans have been getting worried that the project has stalled, but thankfully that's not the case. It just seems the adaptation is taking longer than expected.

Inverse had a chance to talk to Jason Blum, producer on the film. He shared a progress update that indicates things are slow-going, but headway is being made.

"It’s still active. We haven’t quite figured it out, but we’re getting closer every day. The story is the big challenge. You know, Five Nights at Freddy’s should have been easier because there are books, there’s a lot of lore and storytelling. For a video game, I think it has more storytelling than almost any other. But still, the story goes down so many rabbit holes. It goes down so many different directions. It’s big. Choosing which part to tell the first time out of the gate — and how to tell it — has been tricky."

Blumhouse shares a progress update on the Five Nights at Freddy's movie, says it's "rapidly moving forward"

See you at the cinemas

Five Nights at Freddy's has been a wildly successful game franchise, and many involved with the project are hoping to bring that same success to movie theaters. Blumhouse is currently working on a film adaptation of the franchise, and in an interview with Fandom, Jason Blum gave an encouraging update on the movie's progress.

“We have been working on it for a long time. (Development is) super active. So I really feel like we have a very good shot at getting to see a Five Nights at Freddy’s movie. I feel like it’s really moving forward. It’s not stalled or anything else. It might seem that way because we haven’t done any announcements about it, but it’s not stalled. It’s moving rapidly forward and I don’t want to put a timeline on it, but soon we’ll get a movie. I really feel confident about it.”
