Physical listings for Resident Evil 5 and 6 on Switch pop up once again, this time via GameStop

Here we go again

Back in January of 2020, retailer Mighty Ape had listings for physical versions of Resident Evil 5 and 6 on Switch. Just a few days after those listings were discovered, Mighty Ape yanked both pages and stated that both listings were a mistake. Now we might be set to go through that situation all over again.

This time around, it's the official website for GameStop Ireland that has listings for both games on Switch. They're definitely full-priced retail releases according to the listings, and neither has a release date. Are we seeing yet another retail mistake with these titles, or is the second time a charm?

Thanks to Sephiroth_FF for the heads up!

Retailer says their physical listings for Resident Evil 5 & 6 were a mistake

Evil intentions

Well that's a real bummer. Mighty Ape posted up retail versions of both Resident Evil 5 & 6 on Switch not that long ago, and both were up for preorder. Unfortunately, it seems both listings were a mistake. Mighty Ape has now cancelled preorders, and went on record saying Capcom is only releasing these games digitally.

Thanks to JPSwitchMania for the heads up!

Resident Evil 5 & 6 appear to be getting separate physical Switch releases in Australia

Let's hope this is true

Resident Evil 4 has gotten a standalone physical release on Switch, but Resident Evil 5 and 6 are digital-only affairs. At least, that's how things have been since those titles originally hit Switch, but now it seems that both games have standalone physical releases on the way.

Aussie retailer Mighty Ape has added listings for physical versions of Resident Evil 5 and 6 to their website. The site shows a March 27th, 2020 release for both games, and even includes the cover art seen above. Nothing's official until Capcom makes the announcement, but it certainly seems like this is the real deal.

Resident Evil 5 - gameplay round-up

One of the most popular Resident Evil titles can now be played on the go, featuring Chris Redfield and his partner Sheva Alomar, as they venture to the heart of Africa to investigate an outbreak. Featuring single-player and co-op modes, this fully-loaded release includes all previously released DLC (Lost in Nightmares and Desperate Escape story expansions, Versus mode, extra figures and 4 costumes), No Mercy mode, as well as the new mode “The Mercenaries United” which combines the two fan-favorite modes, The Mercenaries and The Mercenaries Reunion for an even more intense experience.

Digital Foundry - Resident Evil 5 & 6 on Switch

Capcom's Resident Evil ports for Switch have been pretty good so far, but what's the score with the latest Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil 6? Capcom has released demo code, we've downloaded both and checked them out. The basics are there, resolution is high, but performance isn't quite right.

An evil port?

A demo for Resident Evil 5 is available on Switch, which gives us a good look at how this port fares. According to the video above, the game is full 1080p docked and 720p handheld. The framerate isn't capped at 30 fps, which means it's a bit all over the place. Check out the video to see how things play out.
