Game Informer Replay - Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero

Recorded in 2010, former editors Dan Ryckert, Bryan Vore and Tim Turi as well as current editor Ben Reeves take a look at one of the boldest spin-offs in Mortal Kombat history.

Original stars of the Mortal Kombat movie get together to reminisce about the movie, and play Mortal Kombat

It's Johnny Vs. Liu Kang!

Robin Shou and Linden Ashby, stars of the 1995 hit 'Mortal Kombat', stop by Heat Vision Breakdown to challenge host Patrick Shanley (and each other) to a friendly match!

The original Mortal Kombat movie may not have been perfect, but it certainly had its moments. I still consider it one of the better video game to movie adaptations ever, even if that's not saying much. It's great seeing two of the main actors from the film get together for a bit of fun, and look back on the days of filming that movie.

Mortal Kombat movie begins filming this week, Jax actor hypes up the project

It's finally happening

Believe it or not, the Mortal Kombat movie is actually heading into production. The film is set to start shooting this week! This has been confirmed by various members of the staff, from writers to actors. The movie is being filmed in south Australia, and all in all, it took 3 and a half years to get to this point!

Mehcad Brooks is just one of the actors in the film, and he'll be taking on the role of Jax. Brooks took to Twitter to get people hyped up for his role in the film, as well as the film in general.

"It’s so fun finding Jax’s fighting style, his swag and his relentless power punches that need to feel like they’d put a fucking hole in a barn. Happy to be working with some of the best stuntmen, sensei and fight choreography team in the business. Y’all ain’t ready."

Mortal Kombat co-creator discusses how the dev team set out to be different from Street Fighter

I think the plan worked

Back in the early 90s, Street Fighter II was the king of the arcades. It was the fighting game everyone was pumping quarters into. How on earth do you create a game in the same genre that can compete? According to a Polygon interview with John Tobias, co-creator of Mortal Kombat, you focus on being the anti-Street Fighter.

“From the game’s inception we knew that it would not be a clone. If we looked at Street Fighter, it was to study how not to do something in Mortal Kombat. I remember we just sort of conceded to the raw look of digitized footage. I think that was the right choice because it went a long way in making sure that our game would stand-out visually from Street Fighter 2.

“I also think that the time we spent developing the characters and story, which was an odd thing to do in an arcade product, helped build a larger world in the minds of our players. That impact lives with MK even in its most recent iterations. Of course, our brand of violence is in large part what gave us a seat at pop culture’s table.”

Keith David discusses reprising his role as Spawn for Mortal Kombat 11

Not his first rodeo

Keith David was announced as the voice actor for Spawn in Mortal Kombat 11 a few weeks back, which is a pitch-perfect pick. It's not the first time David has voiced Spawn, as he took on the role for the Spawn animated series years ago. Comicbook.com caught up with David to see what it was like slipping back into the character for Mortal Kombat 11, and it seems he couldn't have been happier.

“I was thrilled. Like Goliath, Spawn was one of my favorite characters. I often have described them as sort of flip sides of the same coin. You know, Spawn to me it was like Darth Vader making his way back to the forest in spite of himself. So I just love the journey that Spawn is on. Even though he is the Hellspawn, he winds up doing more good than evil. You know, he's not evil at all. I mean, really. He winds up doing ... working for the ultimate good of most of us. He only seems to strike out at the enemies of the people, not the ... He doesn't attack good people or people who do good things. He only goes after people who do bad things.”

Get another look at Sindel's design for Mortal Kombat 11

She looks like a real scream

Sindel is making her way to Mortal Kombat 11 as part of the Kombat Pack, and she'll be out on Nov. 26th, 2019. We have only gotten a few glimpses of the character so far, and while the above picture isn't the most high-res, it certainly gives us a better idea of how the character has been redesigned for this installment.

Actor Lewis Tan comments on his role in the Mortal Kombat movie

Who will he be?

The other day, we shared news of actor Lewis Tan landing a role in the upcoming Mortal Kombat movie. The thing is, we don't know who Tan is playing. While Tan hasn't revealed the character yet, he did take to Twitter to mention his excitement for the role.

"Many years of sacrifice and countless “almosts” have led me here. The path was brutal, relentless and glorious all at the same time, each inch earned in sweat and blood, I wouldn’t have it any other way. I have been training for this my entire life, which is why I will not let you down. Excited to bring this to life with this special studio and this legendary story, it is truly a childhood dream manifested. Dedicated to my father and mother, those that never doubted me, and those that did. To all the fans, this is for you. Round one..."

Upcoming Mortal Kombat movie casts Scorpion and Shang Tsung

Two more pegged for the film

Variety is reporting that the Mortal Kombat movie has found its Shang Tsung and Scorpion. Actor Chin Han is taking on the role of Tsung, and Hiroyuki Sanada will play Scorpion. That makes for two more characters we know will be appearing in the film, and I'd say they're pretty big ones!
