Check out the official synopsis for Spawn in Mortal Kombat 11

Spawn will fit right in

Spawn is making his way to Mortal Kombat 11 on March 17th, 2020, with a full reveal for the character coming on March 8th. While we're all trying to wait patiently to see Spawn in action, at least we can learn a bit more about how the character has found himself in such a crazy tournament.

"Al Simmons, once the U.S. government's greatest soldier and most effective assassin, was mercilessly executed by his own men. Resurrected from the ashes of his own grave in a flawed agreement with the powers of darkness. Simmons is reborn as a creature from the depths of hell. A Hellspawn. Now he is thrust into the world of Mortal Kombat, where he will fight from supremacy against all Kombatants."

"Mastering Kombat: Designing an Empowering Tutorial Mode for 'Mortal Kombat 11'" panel set for GDC 2020

Get over here and learn!

Ever wonder what goes into making a tutorial for a fighting game? The gang behind Mortal Kombat 11 thinks you have, and they want to share some insight into what makes creating a good tutorial so hard.

NetherRealm will be hosting a panel at GDC 2020 called "Mastering Kombat: Designing an Empowering Tutorial Mode for 'Mortal Kombat 11'," and you can read full details on it below.

Fighting games are some of the most difficult games to play, but they often don't empower players with the tools or structure to digest their complexity. Over the course of Injustice 2 and Mortal Kombat 11, NetherRealm Studios has revamped its tutorials from the ground up. This talk will cover how NetherRealm created a foundation to better onboard players, increase player engagement, and build sustainably for future projects, all through a flexible roadmap for diverse player types, and teaching content via various visual and auditory methods.

Takeaway

Attendees will learn about how NetherRealm Studios leveraged its insight into player segments to build tutorial lessons that pace out content through various forms of feedback, and created a flexible structure to equip players with the knowledge they desire for their style of play. Though the content of this talk will be delivered through a fighting game, our approach will be accessible to anyone interested in teaching mechanics to a wide playerbase of varying skill levels.

Intended Audience

This talk is intended for people interested in teaching complex mechanics and designing engaging tutorials for diverse player segments. No prior knowledge of fighting games or experience designing tutorials is necessary.

Mortal Kombat 11 'Joker Vs. Joker' mirror match intro seems to playfully tease Injustice 3 (UPDATE)

Are you joking?

The official Mortal Kombat Twitter account has shared a quick intro from a Joker versus Joker match in Mortal Kombat 11, and the dialog is certainly interesting. In the conversation, Joker and Joker very clearly hint at a third Injustice game. Whether this is a tease of something to come, or creator Ed Boon's way of saying he'd love to do a third, remains to be seen. If a third Injustice title does come along, hopefully it lands on Switch.

UPDATE - Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon says the dialog is nothing but a coincidence.
