this explains why nintendo use friendcodes, why they defy dual analog controls (controls, not controllers), why they insist on doing absolutely everything their way and flat out refuse to use any ideas from playstation/xbox in terms of controllers, online and almost everything. It's quite sad actually.
@motherbra1n I haven't seen the video hey, but what could he have said to get that response out of you? Also, if you see what they have been doing with the 3ds you should see they they are improving in pretty much everything you said. They are still using friend codes (until the Nintendo network arrives on November) but it's only one per system. If you see Mario kart 7 you can see that the online is greatly improved. The e-shop is also a vast improvement over the dsi ware/wiiware. Also, dual analogs are kind of archaic. They feel like an old control scheme when compared to things like motion controls and keyboard/mouse. The only reason you say this is because kid icarus, but having played the game for about 30 hours I have to say that later levels would be nearly impossible with slow/inaccurate dual analog controls and people would complain that it's too hard
I think they do eventually change, they just have to get it wrong their way a few times before swallowing their pride and trying someone elses method, sony are quite similar, they love doing things their way (i.e making everything a bloody powerhouse and putting way too much focus on graphics). The difference between sony and nintendo is that nintendo are absolutely petrified of copying anything from anyone whereas sony rip almost everything off of nintendo.
friendcodes are sadly stuck on the 3DS but I'm 100% sure that if nintendo has the opportunity to go back in time before the 3DS was launched they would have gotten rid of friendcodes, just like they would have added a second circle pad, and hopefully soon enough they can patch kid icarus uprising to have dual analog controls.
That "western dogshit" story needs to die. I was in Japan recently and there are several entire stores (!) DEVOTED to western and western import games!
While I was there, people were picking up CoD and Fallout and enjoying it and I never saw any "western dogshit" signs- that's for sure.
Yeah, they prefer Japanese games, but they don't hate western ones.
Nothing like Pachter (a) not realizing that video gaming's cousin of PC software has gotten none relea from first sale doctrine: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First-sale ... exclusions. And (b) telling a decad old story like it still applied (he does not think Nintendo's traditional model still works, so why should that change and other things not?).
@Motherbra1n. -- not sure what the source/rationale of your comments are. You are making a huge leap of logic with your comment, in my opinion. Nintendo is different, true. What Pachter described was one store's Xenophobia a decade ago.
I'm not sure if they talk about online passes but I just went to see X-Play live and Morgan Webb likes the idea of consoles not letting you play used games or charging you for online passes.
My games suck and gamers keep trading them in so they can buy my next terrible title and then trade that one in as well. Worst of all, other gamers can buy those titles used! How can I force gamers to keep giving me money I don't deserve for something they obviously don't feel compelled to keep?

Don't Worry! LawyerMan is here! We'll start with EULAs and TOS clauses. Forget about that pesky law that says customers have to agree to the contract at the point of sale. We own-... I mean we know a judge. *wink!* Next we'll throw in Online Passes! It's all the money, with none of the effort! Finally we'll start tying games to individual user accounts so that they can never be played on another system ever again so even if their existing system breaks, they'll have to re-buy all their games all over again!

Thanks LawyerMan! What would I ever do without you?
*LawyerMan:*
Probably have to put actual effort into your games so that gamers see them as an investment and not just disposable entertainment. But who has the time for that?
I'm just going to guess there's nothing Nintendo-related from Pachter in this video.
there is not
