the game is huge, man.. and there is barely a load screen. something has to take a hit.

just finished the last story, already finished xenoblade before, and just started pandora

for once (the first time now that I think about it) in my gamer's life I can say that out loud: "it's good to be European" ^^

@HereticPB

the characters don't look so bad, after a couple of hours you simply forget about it because.... well because the other 95% of the game are so awesome that you just don't care in the end

I've never been to the kneecap in the afternoon before. I've always got there at night. I gotta try there someday...

The characters look fine, i'm surprised people still comment on graphics when by now people should be aware of the technical capabilities of the Wii. Bottom line its a bloody great game with excellant graphics and deserves a purchase.

In other news I never wore that hat i didn't find it aesthically pleasing that's always a pain with customizable armor and weapons!

God, I really love the game's art direction...it's just a shame that the technical side of the graphics are quite lacking.

@OutlawMac
Even by Wii standards, Xenoblade Chronicles isn't very good-looking overall. Other than the expansive environments and some frame-buffer effects, everything else looks like GameCube, or even PS2, fare.

@MrGameBoy

GC/PS2?
Mhh someone needs to switch on a GC or a PS2 and get his facts straight

It's true that there are better textures in other Wii games, same for the models, but it still looks better than most GC/PS games.

Now if you take the most beautiful games on the two consoles (which are not AT ALL indicative of the average graphics on these consoles), arguably TP or RE4 on the GC and FFXII on the PS2. They have better models and textures, granted. But where XB really shine is that the universe is huge, filled with details and life, plants, animals and other beings, with no loading whatsoever. Both of the consoles would never be able to pull this off. Not possible. Plus there is this texture thing that happens all the time on the Wii: from far away, which is pretty much 75% of the time in this game given the scale and camera angles, they look very good. If you get closer, they look incredibly muddy.

So yeah, overall, and even if you compare XB to top-notch PS2/GC games made by studios who have a lot more experience in 3D and crazy budgets, there is no way XB could run smoothly on these consoles.

Seriously? Apart from Shulk and Fiora having weak face textures this game is astonishing both artistically and on the hardware, technically. I was consistently awestruck by each new event and place the game took me to, to say this doesn't look very good is ridiculous and an insult to the massive amount of work and love that's gone into it.

@thorn-rock
Ugh, I should have clarified: visually, Xenoblade is more akin to a high-end PS2/Cube game. But yeah, the amount of content on-screen is pretty impressive, especially with how open the worlds are. That said, the textures aren't exactly good, even from far away. And, excluding some motion blur and smoke, the additional visual effects aren't really impressive (from what I've seen so far). So in short, Xenoblade is not bad, but not exactly polished as a whole. But hey, as long as the actual gameplay is awesome, who gives a flying crap?

(Oh, I have a GameCube, and StarFox Adventures, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, Star War Rogue Squadron III, Donkey Kong Jungle Beat, Pikmin 2, and Metroid Prime 2 still look gorgeous.)

@Reynard
Well, the modelling in general is rather blocky, overall look is kinda muddy, and (by some players) occasional slowdown. With that said, the art direction is dominant over the technical shortcomings. But it is a shame the game could have looked a little better.

I hope Monolith can make another game in the vein of Xenoblade on the WiiU. So it can have awesome environments and awesome character design and great gameplay...

Come on Xenoblade 2...

This game is really lovely, I love running across the leg for hours and hours. It's pretty difficult, I wish there was an official guide. I don't have the patience for gamefaq.
