The following information comes from the Kingdom Hearts 3D Ultimania guide book, which contains an interview with Tetsuya Nomura.

I'm pretty sure it's Kingdom Hearts 3 for Wii U/ps3. Didn't he say that the next outing would be the last one in the Xehanort saga? I'm pretty sure that's supposed to be KH 3. "Soon" seems to be either e3 or TGS, maybe we will see a teaser at e3 and more footage at TGS. But, then what's going on with Versus 13? Is that project going to be canceled or is it almost done?

They've said after KH3D, it's gonna be KH3. Now it's all about seeing if they'll keep their word....

Is it too much to ask to finally release Kingdom Hearts 3? I mean seriously, did we really need all those filler games to help us understand the plot of the 3rd game and then some? Come on, Square Enix, give us what we want and not some spin off that no one cares about.

Yes. The team that has made the numbered titles in the past is currently developing Versus XIII. They're likely to use that game's engine anyway, so it's kind of still like they're making progress.
Yes, we do need Birth by Sleep and 3D. A large part of KHIII's plot revolves around saving people from BBS. 3D continues Sora and Riku's story; Xehanort's plans are revealed, a few other truths come to light, and several major characters return.
Nomura: To be clear, this game isn't a spinoff, since it is a continuation of the series' main story.
But that doesn't matter, because you'd probably just say that he was lying. Just don't try to speak for everyone.

Not to mention that the gameplay (at least in BBS; can't speak for 3D) really, REALLY takes a step forward in these "spinoffs." Well, okay, 365/2 days was a horrible game IMHO (so... repetitive...), but Birth By Sleep? The battle system is just so much FUN!
I have the Japanese version of KH:3D and I can say its way more fun than BBS thanks to the Free Flow Action.
